The Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has been riddled with problems since the project was first announced. Fans of the heroes in a half shell have been vocal about the changes Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes team have made to the original source material, the problems with the script, and now the addition of Megan Fox to the movie. Now Paramount has decided to push the film’s release date back three weeks, from May to June.

According to Deadline, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will now open on June 6th. There was no official explanation behind the decision, but the film’s box office may benefit from the move. The most recent release date was for May 16, 2014, which would have put it up against the upcoming Godzilla reboot from director Gareth Edwards. It would’ve most likely split the box office for both films. With June 6, 2014 all to itself, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles can enjoy the spoils of a successful box office.

It’s also interesting to note that this new release date is exactly one week before Jurassic Park IV is due in theaters. It looks like summer 2014 will be full of monsters.

This isn’t the first time Paramount has shifted TMNT‘s release date. The reboot was originally slated for December 2013, but then pushed to March 2014 because of script problems. The whole production was later shut down and¬†put on hiatus¬†until they figured out how to bring the turtles back to the big screen. When the project went back into production, the film was pushed once again from March to May 2014. Hopefully, this June release date will be the last time Paramount touches it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will now open in theaters everywhere on June 6, 2014.

  1. Mike says:

Reboot, reboot, sequel. Pass, pass and pass.

    • Every so often, a film that you would expect to be rubbish surprises everyone and turns out to be actually quite good. I doubt that any of these three will fall into that category.

  2. Bob's Wood says:

they dropped the teenage mutant part.. but the Fox is a major bonus

  3. One can only hope they they will push this movie allll the way back to never.
