Pacific RimEnlist with the Pan Pacific Defense Corps today! With only three months until Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim opens in theaters, Warner Bros. has released a new poster encouraging young would-be recruits to “join the fight.” Be one of the lucky few that gets to pilot giant mechs, called Jaegers, against the giant alien sea monsters known as Kaiju.

Living in the future must be tougher than we thought if there’s a constant call for new recruits for the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, and a number of hazardous warnings to beware of giant robots. So far, the marketing campaign for Pacific Rim has been as inventive and clever as we hope the film itself will be. The campaign started months ago with the release of war-style posters, viral videos teasing Kaiju attacks, and blueprints of the Jaegers.

Early buzz from test screenings suggests that Pacific Rim will be one of the most crowd-pleasing movies of the summer. Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are already working on a Pacific Rim sequel, with both del Toro and co-screenwriter Travis Beacham returning.

After a dimensional rift opens at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, monstrous creatures called Kaiju invade the Earth, wreaking havoc on its coastal cities. Humanity builds giant mechs called Jaegers to battle the sea monsters and save the world from destruction. Each Jaeger needs two pilots working in synchronicity to control the metal giants. But when the Pan Pacific Defense Corps’ fleet is wiped out, two unlikely heroes, Raleigh Antrobus (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), are the world’s only hope against the Kaiju.

Pacific Rim will also star Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day. The giant movie will hit theaters everywhere on July 12th, in IMAX and 3D.
