What’s the best way to combat a scourge of giant monsters that emerge from the depths of the ocean? Why, by building an army of massive mechs, of course. That is exactly what happens in director Guillermo del Doro’s upcoming science fiction film, Pacific Rim. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have been going a wee bit nuts lately, releasing picture after picture from the movie, and today is no different.

The latest image, a character poster of one of the skyscraper-tall robots called Jaegers, introduces us to Coyote Tango, also known as the “Giant Japanese Techno-Tyrant.” Reading this title, you can’t help but be reminded of the world of professional wrestling. Take a gander at this massive, mechanical ass-kicker for yourself.

Given the size of this mech, as well as all that firepower mounted on its shoulders, the scale of the mech-versus-monster action should be epic indeed. I can’t wait to see these guys lock horns with the undersea creatures, called Kaiju.

When the Kaiju first surface, humanity counters with the Jaegers. Even with their technological army, they find themselves trapped in an endless war that costs millions of lives, and most of the prime resources of our planet. Just when things are at their darkest, when it looks like we’re about to come out on the losing end, two unlikely heroes step up. A washed-out pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested rookie (Rinko Kikuchi), piloting an out-of-date Jaeger, may be the only hope the human race has left.

Pacific Rim also stars Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman, and opens July 12, 2013.
