How would you react if you were walking down the street and encountered an exact replica of yourself? That’s the exact scenario in BBC America’s new conspiracy thriller Orphan Black. Below you can check out the first three minutes of the series, which premieres Saturday, March 30th as part of “Supernatural Saturday.”
This clip introduces us to Sarah, played by Tatiana Maslany. She’s a street-smart orphan roaming the city streets, living on her wits and gumption. One night at a train station, she encounters a woman who looks just like her, like the spitting image. When the doppelganger throws herself under the wheels of an oncoming commuter train, Sarah picks up her conveniently abandoned purse and assumes the woman’s identity.
That’s where this clip leaves us, with Sarah walking away, new life in hand. Quick thinking indeed; most of us would have run away screaming, but we’re not tough-ass British orphans. This is an intriguing glimpse at the show, one that really sets the mood, drops us into a unique set up, and piques your interest. Orphan Black looks like something that might be worth keeping an eye on.
After picking up her new persona, including a slew of new relationships, Sarah finds herself embroiled in a twisted mystery. It turns out that she and the dead woman are clones, but who made them, whether there are more, and why she jumped in front of a moving train are just a few of the questions she must find the answers to.
