turtle powerFrom the moment the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot was first announced, long-time fans of the Heroes in a Half Shell were upset with almost every facet of the new movie. One of the more glaring missteps that the Michael Bay-produced project took was changing the title of the film from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to merely Ninja Turtles. Taking out the “Teenage” and the “Mutant” angered fans who were worried that the new Turtles wouldn’t be the same as the old Turtles. Well, worry no more. The film’s title changed back to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now we only have to worry about all the other ways this will almost certainly go horribly wrong.

The title change may seem arbitrary, but the debate over the changes made to the reboot have been heated. Long-time fans didn’t want to see their precious Turtles turned into a mockery. But what’s in a name? Were people really so upset that they would have skipped the movie just because of the title? Well, crisis averted, I guess.

As production gets started on the newly retitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, actor Alan Ritchson (Smallville) recently defended the reboot, claiming that it’s “so much better than people think.” We’ll find out come the summer of 2014.

The Turtles reboot recently cast actor Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld) as the Turtles’ mutant rat ninja master Splinter, who would be a CGI/live-action hybrid. Woodburn joins Arrested Development‘s Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher, and Megan Fox, who will play Channel 6 Reporter April O’Neil.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will hit theaters everywhere on June 6, 2014.
