A few weeks ago, casting for Transformers 4 started with the surprising addition of Mark Wahlberg. To star “against” him, will be an unknown Irish actor named Jack Reynor, who Michael Bay saw in the Irish movie What Richard Did.

On Bay’s personal website, the action director gushed about Reynor. He will be the new face of — what Bay revealed as — a new movie trilogy. Bay writes:

I just hired a great new actor for Transformers 4 to star against Mark Wahlberg. Jack Reynor, he is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie WHAT RICHARD DID. This kid is the real deal.

Jack Reynor will most likely play the Sam Witwicky-type character of the new Transformers trilogy. There has been some speculation that Transformers 4 would be the first film in a new trilogy, and now Michael Bay has confirmed it. Are you ready for three more Transformers movies? At the moment, it’s unclear if Michael Bay will direct the entire new trilogy as he did with the first trilogy, beginning in 2007. Bay explains, “This movie takes place exactly 4 years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy.”

Presumably, the Autobots are now the peacekeepers of Earth, but a new threat lurks beyond the horizon. While there are no solid details, a purported script for the upcoming Transformers 4 leaked a while back, and it involved the Autobot Vector Prime and the planet-eating villain, Unicron. After the details were divulged, Michael Bay debunked them and called the leaked script a fake.

One thing’s for sure, Transformers 4 will feature a new cast of characters and new Transformers…but will it really be something new, or just more of what we’ve already seen three times already?

Transformers 4 will hit theaters on June 29, 2014 in 3D IMAX.
