Mass Effect fans who thought they didn’t get enough time hanging out on the Citadel in the final game of the series, take heart. The newly announced final DLC pack for Mass Effect 3 will send Shepard and company back to the immense space station in a big way. Hell, the DLC is even named simply Mass Effect 3: Citadel. The single-player expansion will be arriving this March for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

BioWare’s Chris Priestly announced the Citadel DLC content via the company’s forums:

When a sinister conspiracy targets Commander Shepard, you and your team must uncover the truth, through battles and intrigue that range from the glamour of the Citadel’s Wards to the top-secret Council Archives. Uncover the truth and fight alongside your squad – as well as the cast from the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.

When the adventure is over, reconnect with your favorite characters from the Mass Effect Trilogy, try your luck at the Citadel’s Silver Coast Casino, blow off steam in the Armax Combat Arena, or explore and furnish Shepard’s own living quarters on the Citadel. With unique content and cinematics featuring your friends and romance interests in the Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect 3: Citadel offers one final chance to see the characters you have known for years and rekindle romances.

BioWare has been teasing this final DLC for months now, with early images hinting that a return to the Citadel would be in store. We knew that many of the actors were returning to record new content for this, and that composer Sam Hulick was putting together new material that he said had “high potential for tears.” It all seems to be coming together in an expansion that looks to let Shepard reconnect with old friends and allies, and the wording could be interpreted to mean you’ll get to use squadmates from the earlier games in this content, even if they weren’t recruitable within the main ME3 campaign. I know I wouldn’t mind having Wrex by my side for one last adventure.

With this being the last ME3 DLC, some fans are likely to be annoyed that it sounds like it still takes place before the finale of the game. While some fans, including myself, have been wishing BioWare’s post-release content would give us adventures that take place after the events of the main campaign, it’s unlikely they would have picked this final DLC to do that. Especially since the state of both the galaxy and Shepard himself in the aftermath of the game would make such a thing tricky at best.

The Citadel DLC will release on March 5th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. If you’re going to be picking it up for your 360, make note that it will require two separate downloads because of the size of the content. You will purchase the first download for $14.99, and then download the second pack for free. The free download, naturally, won’t work without the first one. PC and PlayStation 3 players will be able to grab the content as one complete download.
