Best. Marketing. Ever: Contagion Billboard Made Of Mold And Bacteria
Movies like The Dark Knight and District 9 paved the way for the viral marketing surge that has happened over the last half-decade. For the first time though, marketing geniuses have taken the term “viral” as literally as you can, well short of releasing an actual virus out into the world.
Contagion marketing at Warner Bros. and a clan of scientists put together two over-sized petri dishes then treated them with bacteria and fungi which in turn created the two god damn coolest billboards you’ll ever see for a movie. While limited to just these two boards in Toronto, you will be hard pressed to find a smarter marketing idea for a film. Bacteria, make my monster GROOOOOW!
While Contagion has had a few pretty cool posters before thisand some stellar trailers, there’s no doubt that a billboard made of bacteria would trump both of those efforts and put tons of butts in seats. I mean, if someone on the team was smart enough to come up with this idea, then the movie must be twice as smart, right?
So far early reviews say yes. Director Steven Soderbergh had an amazing cast to work with and from what we’re hearing he’s got another success on his hands. Contagion hits tonight at midnight. Are you prepared?
