It’s been a long time coming, and we still have a long time to wait see Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller’s return to the post-apocalyptic world that he created in 1979. After huge setbacks, including delays, studio interference, and unheard of weather that damn near wiped the entire film off the map, the movie has been in the can for a while. Despite that, we still won’t see the movie until May of next year. That’s a long time for those of us who have already been waiting years for this, but at least until then we’ll have a new video game to satiate our appetites. Warner Bros. studios’ Mad Max game comes out this year, and is here with two fantastic trailers.

The first video introduces you to Max Rockatansky’s new ride, and in this world, a man is nothing without his ride. It’s more than just a vehicle, it’s a way of life, and a means of survival. You know a car is badass if it has a name, and when your call is called Magnum Opus, you know you better have some serious muscle going on.

Watching this footage from the game, you have to hope that Fury Road looks half this good. You’ve seen set photos and behind the scenes images from the movie, and these post-apocalyptic battlewagons will look familiar to you. Still, you’ve never seen them in action like this, and sure it’s video game action, but this is as good as we’re going to get, and gives you a nice taste of what may be in store for us in the future. It also looks like you’ll be able to customize the Magnum Opus, at least to a certain extent.

The second video is more of a trailer and less of an action reel, and it makes me wish I played video games, because if I was ever going to play any game, it would be Mad Max. There’s a very western feel to this look. Rotting skeletons of cars, ships, and buildings litter the barren, desolate frontier wasteland. The people are hard and rough, as the voiceover says, “Morality, justice, mercy, they don’t exist anymore.” And into all of this walks a man, a man called Max. This is a world where heroes don’t exist, and Max is no hero, but he’s all they’ve got, and that might be enough.

The look and feel of this game is 100% Mad Max. From the setting and character design down to the action, this appears to be exactly what you want out of any product bearing this moniker. I don’t know what the actual story will be like, but the gameplay and overall aesthetic looks incredible.

Mad Max the game drops later this year, and Mad Max: Fury Road opens May 15, 2015.
