This Mad Max: Fury Road Trailer Is More Insane Than You Ever Dreamed

Well holy shit, this is a happy surprise. Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller’s long-awaited return to the post-apocalyptic wastes he first visited in 1979, has been one of our most anticipated movies over last few years, and even though we still have to wait until May 15, 2015 to see it, our enthusiasm has not diminished one bit. In fact, when Warner Bros. does things like unleash this new trailer, it makes us want to go into some kind of hypersleep so this will be the first thing we see when we wake up in six months. But don’t my word for it, check out the madness for yourself.

Again, just like the trailer we saw come out of San Diego Comic-Con back in July, Fury Road looks absolutely ridiculous and bonkers in the best possible way. This starts out fast and intense, and never lets up, only cranking up the crazy as it goes. The entire trailer is full to bursting with startling imagery, massive crashes and explosions, and stunts you look at and wonder how anyone involved walked away unscathed. Which is precisely what we want out of a Mad Max movie.

The story follows Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy stepping into the role that helped launch Mel Gibson to international superstardom), a loner who believes the best way to survive is to roam the barren, desolate frontier by himself. But that doesn’t last long, as he encounters a group of refugees fleeing across the desert in a War Rig. Led by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron with a badass shaved head and missing an arm), they’re running from the warlord Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Bryne, the Toecutter from Mad Max), who has lost something irreplaceable. From what we see here, this definitely supports what we’ve heard about the plot, that it’s essentially one long, endless chase scene where they wreck hundreds of cars. Again, that’s exactly what we hoped this movie would be.

While in the first three movies in the franchise the world has a slapped together feel, like you would likely find in a real post-apocalyptic situation, where everything you own is cobbled together from what you find, barter for, or steal, the design on Fury Road is crazy over the top and intricate. Just check out these costumes and the look of the bad guys…

Mad Max Fury Road…like Immortan Joe…

Mad Max Fury Road…Nicholas Hoult’s Nux…

Mad Max Fury Road…this obvious lunatic…

Mad Max Fury Road…and this crowd of obvious lunatics.

Mad Max Fury RoadThere’s so much to look at as Miller obviously went huge for this movie. Just check out the wide-open frames of the desert…

Mad Max Fury Road…the sweeping helicopter shots…

Mad Max Fury Road…and this big ass storm that, as the trailer unspools, only appears to get bigger and meaner.

Mad Max Fury RoadThen of course there’s the action…

Mad Max Fury Road…the action…

Screen Shot 2014-12-10 at 11.47.14 AM..and even more action. Is that guy playing a guitar in the middle of the pursuit? What the hell is going on here? I’m not sure, but I absolutely love it.

Mad Max Fury RoadWe still have a long time to wait before we finally see Mad Max: Fury Road, but after this trailer I’m even more excited about it than I thought possible. I hope you enjoy it as well.
