LEGO Star Wars Returns With Goofed Up Trailer For New Yoda Special

I made a bet with myself to see how many Star Wars stories we could get on GFR in the days between the epic casting announcement and May 4, also known as Star Wars Day. Thankfully, I haven’t yet had to resort to becoming romantically involved with a woman who ends up being my sister in order to get put on the local news so that I could then write about it. It’s everywhere. And Disney’s latest reveal for fans is the new trailer for Disney XD’s LEGO Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles: Escape from the Jedi Temple, which should seriously be a nomenclature felony.

Since everything works better in trilogies, this fourth Yoda Chronicles episode is in tune with the timeline for George Lucas’ original trilogy, whereas the first three specials followed the course of Episode I-III. This of course means no more Anakin, and much more Darth Vader, plus Han and Luke and all the original gang. Times are good.

Really, the LEGO guys could make a cartoon that was just a blocky version of people sleeping and I’d find it entertaining. (Maybe that says more about me than about LEGO’s universal appeal.) You know how you can tell this is a lighthearted version of the classic space adventure? The trailer starts off with Emperor Palpatine rocking out to the Imperial March on a boombox that’s half his size. It’s meta, anachronistic, and more than a little silly.

lego star warsUnfortunate it is that this is only a TV spot, something more substantial it is not. It was fine, mind you, but I can always use more jokes. Especially ones that make me forget Yoda saying things like, “Ooh, like this new 3PO, I do.”

The Escape from the Jedi Temple plot centers on Luke nearly getting captured by Darth Vader due to his sloppy skills. (Perhaps leading to the Falcon snafu in the trailer.) Seeing this, Yoda teams up with the ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi to give Luke the rest of his Jedi training and bring out the last of the Jedi Holocrons. Incidentally, the episode was originally titled Quest for the Holocron, so you get their importance.

And if you needed another reason to tune in beyond just it being another fun LEGO Star Wars adventure, the episode will play host to the very first trailer for the upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels, which is set to premiere this fall. You can find a short clip for that series below.
