They say a picture is worth a thousand words. They also say you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Clearly the folks behind the upcoming Tom Cruise science fiction movie, All You Need Is Kill, have taken both those truisms to heart, because when it came time to give us a first look at the upcoming film, this is the image they chose for their first impression. There’s a lot to like about this picture. Aside from combining a robot suit with a giant explosion — both things we enjoy here at GFR — the unforgettable image also presents a situation in which Tom Cruise might be set on fire, which is a pleasant thought for anyone who sat through Rock of Ages this past summer.

All kidding aside, it’s definitely a hell of a way to introduce All You Need Is Kill to the public at large. Sure, one badass image doesn’t prove that All You Need Is Kill will be a good movie. I mean, honestly, who among us hasn’t climbed into a snazzy mech suit and sprinted toward camera as a massive fireball nips at our heels? That’s just an average Tuesday around here.

All You Need Is Kill is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s 2004 Japanese sci-fi novel, which follows a soldier in a future war who finds himself dying over and over again, retaining his memories with each new incarnation. Basically a science fiction spin on Groundhog Day, but with Bill Murray swapped out for Tom Cruise (not a fair trade, if you ask us). In addition to Cruise, the cast includes Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Charlotte Riley. It’s being directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), and is slated for release on March 14, 2014.

One parting thought: If somebody hasn’t already Photoshopped “America, Fuck Yeah” onto that image, I am very, very disappointed in you, Internet.
