New Kickstarter Project Wants To Record An Album On The Moon

David Bowie famously sang of life on Mars, but a new kickstarter project wants to take the union of space travel and music to a next, possibly insane level. A new Kickstarter project called “Space Folk Album: Lunar Aid 1985” aims to record an album of folk music…on the Moon. Yes, the actual moon.

The brainchild of the Stuff Monsters Like blog, Lunar Aid 1985 dreams of both traveling to and then colonizing the Moon, but only as a necessary first step to launching an exciting new musical genre. Here’s a segment from the official product description:

Our big dream is to redefine the genre of space folk music. We want to be the John Denver of space folk! To make our music as authentic as possible, first, we must venture into space. Could Muddy Waters have written what he wrote without the Delta? Could Bob Dylan have written what he wrote without hopping trains?

That is why we have chosen the moon as the setting for our first great album.

Sounds reasonable enough to me. As with all Kickstarter projects, the size of your donations will make you eligible for various prizes, each more interesting than the last. For a mere $20, you will receive an acre of Moon real estate (they’re planning on buying the Moon before traveling there, as common sense would dictate). For $50 or more, you get a pet Moon rock. And for a pledge of $1,000 or more, you will receive a “free Moonbucks Coffee Membership for Life.”

Sadly, the project only has 12 days to go and has only raised about $4,500 of the required $21 million. So if any of you GFR readers happen to be billionaires, go fund these kids so we can see what they do when their bluff is called. Then we will find out if it’s true that in space, no one can hear you sing.
