Jurassic WorldAs soon as we heard that there was going to be a new Jurassic Park movie, the aptly named Jurassic World, we assumed that there would likely be sequels to follow. This isn’t our first rodeo after all. Now that the cast is in play and filming has started in Hawaii, we probably won’t hear too much about the film for a moment—that is until photos start leaking from the set—and we can start to imagine what the future may look like. And we’re not the only ones. Director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) recently talked about potential sequels, dropped plot details, and talked about the role Omar Sy will play in the film.

Talking to Empire, Trevorrow discussed possible future outings. Though we’re fairly certain Jurassic World will be a huge hit, and that more films is a given, it does seem a bit early in the game for such talk. The first movie doesn’t hit theaters until the summer of 2015, and though he hopes he’ll be back for future rides, Trevorrow doesn’t even know if he’ll be involved. He says:

We definitely talked about [sequels] a lot… We wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story.

Though he doesn’t say much about specific plot details of potential sequels, Trevorrow goes on to hint which characters could be return, which involves potential spoilers for movies that we won’t see for at least a few years. Odds are we’ll have forgotten them by then, but just in case, we’re going to leave out that particular tidbit to the very end so you can skip over it if you want.

Trevorrow didn’t get into the specifics about the plot of Jurassic World, but he spoke about he overarching conflict. We know it’s humans versus dinosaurs, but he digs a little deeper into that basic set up.

It’s about alpha dominance and the fact that humans have been the alpha species for a very long time. And so now we’ve brought back another that happened to be the alpha species during its time, and we have to co-exist, so what is that relationship?

Just a warning, things get a bit spoilery from here on out.

Trevorrow also took the opportunity to discuss one specific role, that of Omar Sy (X-Men: First Class). He says:

He’s essentially Chris Pratt’s best friend…They work together and have some pretty cool action scenes together. I wanted to create a relationship there that could be memorable and potentially carry on to future films.

He definitely makes it sound like both Pratt and Sy make it through Jurassic World in one piece, which, admittedly, takes some of the tension out of the movie.

In Jurassic World the much-troubled theme park has finally become a reality, but there are problems, of course, and the dinosaurs break out and run amok. Sounds like a good time to us. The film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Judy Greer, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, and Ty Simpkins, and opens wide on June 12, 2015.
