Jurassic Park IV Gets A Title And Release Date For Summer 2015

A few months after Universal put the Jurassic Park IV project on hiatus, the movie studio has revealed the sequel film’s new title and release date. From now on Jurassic Park IV will be known as Jurassic World, which seems to be a hint that the new film will expand the earlier Jurassic Park mythology.
As reported in Variety, Jurassic World will release on June 12, 2015. At the moment, the sequel film will have no direct competition the weekend it opens in 2015. The release date is a few weeks after The Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters, a week before the Assassin’s Creed video game adaptation is released, and two weeks before the new Terminator trilogy is kicked-off with Terminator 5. The summer of 2015 is shaping up to be jam-packed!
The new title automatically makes you think of a wider world than the previous Jurassic Park films. It seems like the story might branch away from the theme park backdrop and might feature dinosaurs off site. Could the next film in the series be called Jurassic Universe?
Back in May, Universal put Jurassic World on hiatus to retool and expand its original concept. Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver wrote the original screenplay for Jurassic Park IV, but the film’s new director, Colin Trevorrow, rewrote the script with his writing partner Derek Connolly.
When the project was first announced back in January, Universal wanted to fast track the movie for a June 13, 2014 release date. The studio soon realized the film wasn’t coming together as quickly as they would have liked, so they put it on temporary hiatus until the producers, Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley, could figure out how to make the movie work. While most would see this move as a disaster in the making, it’s actually a good thing Universal put Jurassic World on hiatus. It showed that the movie studio wanted to get the film right instead of releasing a mediocre, flash-in-the-pan sequel.
There are no plot details available, but the new film is rumored to take place at a new theme park, which is fully working and safe. The new Jurassic Park is now the most popular tourist attraction in the world. To gain more attendees, Jurassic Park introduces a new aquatic dinosaur that breaks free and wreaks havoc. Think of the film as Jurassic Park meets Jaws 3D.
Colin Trevorrow recently made a guest appearance on the Jurassic Park Podcast to talk about Jurassic World. While he didn’t divulge any new information about the film, he did address the rumors surrounding the project. Trevorrow said, “Don’t believe everything you read, there are way more insiders on the Internet than there are in real life.”
Actor John Krasinski is rumored to be joining the cast of Jurassic World, while Bryce Dallas Howard, David Oyelowo, and Garrett Hedlund were considered for the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park film franchise before Universal put the project on hiatus. It is also believed that the group of actors is still being considered for Jurassic World.
Jurassic World will hit theaters everywhere on June 12, 2015, in 3D and IMAX.
