Joss Whedon Seems Ready To Do More Firefly If Someone Calls Him
We’ve been talking a lot this week about cancelled sci-fi TV shows which deserve to be brought back. Judging from the results of our poll there’s one show which clearly, above all others, you’d like to see someone resurrect: Firefly.
The interesting thing about Firefly is that it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibily. The series has been gone ten years, and they even did a movie in the interim, but the cast has remained enthusiastic about their desire to go back to work on TV if anyone ever gives them the chance. And now the show’s creator Joss Whedon is letting everyone know that he too is pretty open to making more if anyone wants to give him the chance.
Talking to IndieWire about Firefly Whedon says…
I keep thinking they’re going to call me, crunch the numbers and say “Hey, we can make money from this!” — but they don’t. I would never rule it out, I love those people. But I can’t just wait by the phone.
This is great timing really since we know that Netflix, in an effort to start producing their own original content, is looking at picking up popular yet cancelled television shows with an eye to producing new episodes. They’re already doing it with Arrested Development which, incidentally was cancelled around the same time as Firefly and at the time got about the same ratings. If they can do it with AD why not Firefly? Everyone involved is ready to go. Where are you Netflix? Pick up the phone and call Joss Whedon.
