chastainOne day, I expect to look at my computer screen and see a headline that says, “Christopher Nolan Adds Several Complete Nobodies to Current Film,” because I am clearly out of touch with reality. Though his earlier films like Memento and Insomnia got better character work from his actors, his big-budget affairs have sacrificed the characters for the grandeur of the story and the length of the cast list. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I think his Dark Knight trilogy had around 1,200 famous actors in it.

His upcoming space epic Interstellar could soon have one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses in it, as Jessica Chastain is in talks for the film’s third lead. Chastain is coming off of an Oscar-nominated performance in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, after breaking out fast as lightning with star turns in Tate Taylor’s The Help, Jeff Nichols’ Take Shelter, and Terrance Malick’s The Tree of Life. She was also in Mama, and has a slew of other projects in the works, though genre fans will probably be most interested in her role in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak.

The film’s facts are few. Stephen Spielberg tapped Christopher Nolan’s brother, Jonah, to pen a script dealing with wormhole theories and later dropped the project. Christopher Nolan then did a rewrite, and now we have…well, we have Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway and possibly Chastain as people who travel to the farthest reaches are our understanding. Wormholes. Spacetime. No Batman…probably.

As of this point, Insterstellar should get released on November 7, 2014, in IMAX theaters.
