Interstellar Crashes Spaceships Into Iceland

Christopher NolanChristopher Nolan’s super-secret sci-fi project Interstellar began filming in Canada approximately a month ago. There have been little bits and pieces of information left here and there, a veritable breadcrumb trail of plot and story details. Now we’re getting word that the production has left the friendly confines of the Great White North, and shifted their base of operations, temporarily at least, to Iceland, where they’ve been filming a large-scale action scene that prominently features a spaceship crash.

Thus far, we’ve been handed disjointed pieces of the story of Interstellar. Somehow the plot includes a number of disparate elements, including catastrophic global climate change, wormholes, and corn. While all of those are well and good, perfectly fine building blocks to construct a movie from, the addition of a big time spaceship crash definitely turns the action knob up to 11. And if Nolan’s track record is any indication, we could be in for quite an adventure. We are, after all, talking about a guy who staged a scene where one plane hijacks another plane in midair while characters jump and climb all over the place, among other notable sequences in his cannon. Let’s just say, his vision doesn’t run on the small side of things as far as action is concerned.

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus used an Icelandic setting as the surface of a strange alien world, and perhaps we’ll see it used in a similar manner in Interstellar. But that’s not all the news. In addition to the craft that crash lands, there is also talk of an even larger vessel, one that is reportedly being referred to as a “the Mothership.” There’s no more information than there’s a big ass ship with a generic sci-fi style moniker, but that’s a promising piece of news. Like I said, Nolan doesn’t go small.

There is also talk that models of small drones have been created for the production, so that’ll figure into the action as well. Interstellar is set in the future, and since we can already have drones deliver packages—at least if you live in China—you can bet those little bastards are going to be all up in everybody’s business.

So if none of these facts—Nolan, spaceships, spaceship crashes, bigger spaceships, and drones—are enough to entice you to see Interstellar then you’ll have to hang your hat on the cast, which includes some people you may have heard of. Here are some of the people you will see: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn, Casey Affleck, and more. And if that isn’t enough to get you into a movie theater then I’m starting to doubt that you like movies.
