The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 1 Drops Living Portraits And A Comic-Con Poster

If past performance is any indication, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1, the first half of the last chapter of The Hunger Games trilogy, is going to be one of the biggest movies of 2014. After The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was the highest grossing movie of 2013, this is going to be huge, box office wise. But that doesn’t mean that Summit and Lionsgate is going to sit back and just let people come to them, no, they’ve been pumping up the November 21 release already. With San Diego Comic-Con in full swing, they’re all over that, too, despite the fact that they don’t have a panel planned. They’ve unveiled two new motion posters, a Comic-Con exclusive one-sheet, and the Capital has even deployed Peacekeepers to maintain and enforce order at the massive gathering of all things geek.
The first motion poster—which is apparently a marketing trend that studio executives think people actually like, because they’ve been all over the place this summer—shows Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Melark, decked out in full Capital garb, spinning around as triumphant music plays. Fans will remember that at the end of Catching Fire, while Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and some of the other Hunger Games competitors escaped to the previously-thought-destroyed District 13, Peeta was still in the clutches of the evil President Snow (Donald Sutherland). As you can clearly see, he is now being used as a propaganda tool.
But Peeta is not the only one in the hands of the Capital. Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) is also in the same predicament, an unwilling pawn in the political game of Snow and the Capital machine.
A lucky few will also be able to get their hands on this street-art-style Con-exclusive poster. Images of the Peacekeepers are juxtaposed with stenciled Mockingjays, which started life as a personal insignia of Katniss, only to be adopted by the growing underground of rebels as a symbol of open rebellion against snow and the Capital. It looks like revolution is definitely in the air.
And speaking of the Peacekeepers, for those of you lucky enough to be in attendance in San Diego, prepare to go around a corner and have the living hell scared out of you as you come face to face with the force of the government soldiers deployed at the event. If the massive crowds get rowdy, you can bet that these foot soldiers will step in to dispense their particularly swift and brutal brand of justice. The Hunger Games: Mockinjay—Part 1 may not have a huge panel in the vaunted Hall H, but they’ve certainly taken great pains to make sure that no one forgets what November will bring, as if that’s going to be possible.
