This one feels a bit strange to write as I’m not an angst-ridden teen and haven’t been for some time, but The CW, once the sole bastion overwrought adolescent melodrama, has been turning out some solid science fiction. The Tomorrow People stumbled out of the block and proved short-lived, but it definitely picked up steam towards the end of its run. Even though it’s only a handful of episodes into its run, I’ve been enjoying The Flash. It’s far from perfect, but so far it’s been a fun take on the character and the source material, and one that’s far more engaging than I expected. And then there’s The 100, which is way better than I think anyone, even the people involved, expected it to be. At first glance it’s a new-jack retelling of Lord of the Flies with a collection of good-looking teens (who knew all juvenile space criminals were so pretty to look at?). But it takes the least obvious path at every given opportunity, and the result is a show that manages to be fresh and surprising as it continues to expand its fictional world. And Raymond J. Barry has joined the party, which is even better. – Brent
