Star-LordYesterday, the Internet went crazy for the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. While the movie stars a group of much more obscure comic characters, it looks to have charm, a unique look, and its own sense of humor that sets it apart from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is the reason why Guardians of the Galaxy is the riskiest movie from Marvel Studios since the first Iron Man back in 2008. No one’s really sure if audiences will show up for a weird space opera like Guardians of the Galaxy, but in the meantime Marvel will be keeping up the publicity press. On Marvel.com, there’s an interesting article that breaks down weapon of choice for each member of the Guardians team.

Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) carries an element gun that has the ability to project one of the four elements (air, earth, fire, and water), and he also has his signature helmet, which can be seen in the film’s trailer. Star-Lord’s helmet features a universal translator and strategy-enhancing programs to help him be an effective leader. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) uses a sword called her “Godslayer.” Her adoptive father Thanos gave her the blade, which is also featured in the trailer, with her squaring off against the space pirate Nebula (Karen Gillan).

Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) uses twin daggers he received when he was transformed from Arthur Douglas to the muscular beast he has become. While Groot (Vin Diesel) simply uses his fists, the tree-like alien has the ability to regenerate and grow from small to big at a moment’s notice. Finally, Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) keeps at least two blasters at his side at all times. It’s going to be a sweet moment in the new movie when we see all five of them going up against the entire universe.

Meanwhile, fresh off the heels of the New York Toy Fair, Superhero Hype has revealed collector’s figures of Groot and Rocket Raccoon from Kotobukiya. The images below feature the alien duo in impeccable detail. Just look at Rocket’s gun. It’s just as big as he is.

Sideshow Collectibles is also releasing a Star-Lord figure featuring his helmet and mask.

Guardians of the Galaxy follows Peter Quill, a half-human, half-alien who finds himself in the middle of a galaxy-wide manhunt after he steals a mysterious orb. In order to escape a space prison, he allies with a group of misfits and outlaws. When he learns of the orb’s true power, he must rally his new team to save the galaxy from the Kree Empire and Ronan the Accuser.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, Olivia Lovibond, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close. It opens in theaters everywhere on August 1. Check out a mash-up video of the film’s trailer and the intro of Parks and Recreation from MTV below:
