It’s back up again! Watch while you can!

When Marvel first announced that they were making a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, many of us double-checked the calendar to make sure April 1 hadn’t snuck up on us. Sure, Marvel had already managed to build a movie empire on the shoulders of comparatively lesser-known characters such as Iron Man and Thor, but Guardians of the Galaxy was waaaaaaay more obscure than either of those properties. It also opened the door to loads of spacebound mythology nobody expected the Marvel cinematic universe to tackle until further down the line, if ever. Well, we’re eating crow three meals a day lately because damned if Guardians hasn’t become one of our most-anticipated movies of 2014. And while the footage might be pretty low quality, the leaked Guardians teaser footage above has only cranked up our excitement that much more.

It’s frankly kind of astonishing that this footage hasn’t been pulled by Marvel’s lawyers already, especially since it’s posted on YouTube under the guile-less title of “Guardians of the Galaxy teaser trailer.” We’re betting word will spread and it’ll be targeted for termination sooner rather than later, so for god’s sake watch it immediately, if you haven’t already!

Between the quick cuts and the shaky, handheld recording, it’s hard to make out a lot of the trailer, but there is still plenty of awesome on display. For those of you who can’t watch it wherever you are — or those arriving after the footage is already gone — here’s a quick rundown of what we can make out from the footage.

Set — rather brilliantly, if I do say so myself — to “Hooked on a Feeling,” the Guardians teaser is 30 brief seconds of badassery, featuring space ships, aliens, blasters, a rampaging Groot, and, best of all, Rocket Raccoon shooting the hell out of everything. We get brief looks at Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista as Gamora and Drax the Destroyer, and lead Chris Pratt shows off both his newly ripped physique and his Star-Lord helmet/costume. The only dialogue comes at the end, when Rhomann Dey (played by John C. Reilly) namechecks the team, after which an unidentified character muses, “What a bunch of a-holes.” The closing shot is of the “police line-up” seen in the first official image from the film.

Assuming this is indeed the footage that premiered at San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, it’s amazing how polished it looks. Granted, the quality is poor, but even accounting for that it’s easy to understand why it got the crowd riled up and excited. Comedy and sci-fi are a combination that self-destructs far more often than it soars, but this footage gives us hope that director James Gunn is getting it right. Nobody wants Guardians to be the flick that breaks Marvel Films’ impressive run of success. Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters this summer, on August 1, 2014.
