Marvel has already released what will likely go down as the best comic book movie of 2014, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but that’s not going to stop them from taking their game to a whole new level with Guardians of the Galaxy. Everything we’ve seen from the upcoming deep space adventure makes it look like a perfect combination of action and sarcastic humor. That’s just what we’re looking for, and it is on full display in this latest teaser and a new spoof poster.

“So here we are. A thief, two thugs, an assassin, and a maniac.” The first time we heard that line in the latest full trailer, we knew it was too good to be just a one off, and that it would be back. And here it is; fancy that. This quick hitter encapsulates everything we want to see out of this movie. It’s hilarious, packed with tons of action, and looks absolutely incredible. If you’re interested in Guardians in any way, it’s hard to watch this and not get stoked.

This features mostly footage we’ve already seen, but there’s a decent amount of new stuff going on as well. Glenn Close’s Nova Prime, while skeptical of the misfit band of heroes made up of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel), appears to have more confidence in them this time around. Or, perhaps that “Our world is facing an unstoppable threat. Send in the Guardians,” line is more like, hey, we’re totally boned, let the bad guys chew on these losers for a while to buy us some more time. That’s a definite possibility.

Guardians of the GalaxyAnd then there’s whatever the hell is going on here with Star-Lord and Drax, or at least Drax’s hand. Given how banged up he looks, I think it’s safe to say that the team has been through some shit by this point, and while I have no idea what that swirly purple nonsense is, I can’t wait to find out.

In theory, this is one of two new spots we’ll see for the movie today. The other, a 60-second look, will air during the first game of the NBA finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs tonight on ABC.

Guardians of the GalaxyThe last few days there has been a lot of Star Wars: Episode VII news, not that George Lucas’ space opera franchise is ever far from our hearts and minds. With the casting announcements, leaked set photos, and responses to leaked set photos, this new Guardians poster, unveiled by director James Gunn himself, hits the mark perfectly. Not only is the image a fantastic send up of that classic Star Wars poster, the tag line “Not so long ago in a galaxy quite close by…” is spot on.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens everywhere on August 1.
