Guardians of the GalaxyCaptain America: The Winter Soldier was the first big time comic book adaptation of this blockbuster movie season, but there are a bunch more on the way starting this week. We’ve got The Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Guardians of the Galaxy all on the list. While all of these titles are intriguing in their own right, it’s that last one that we’re most excited about (though X-Men gets points for the inclusion of giant freakin’ robots, we’re easy). The August 1 release for Guardians still sounds like a long way away, but we obviously have plenty on the movie front to keep us occupied. And just so their film doesn’t get lost among the hustle and bustle of summer time movie season, Marvel has revealed a couple of new stills, one that shows off Karen Gillan’s bald blue villain Nebula.

Released on the Guardian’s Facebook page, this image definitely paints a picture of someone you don’t want to mess with. That expression she’s wearing is not the look of someone you want to get into it with if you know what’s good for you. We know from previous pictures and reports that she’s going to tussle with Zoe Saldana’s badass green warrior Gamora. That’s certainly one moment that is sure to be burned into nerd brains for years to come.

An alien space pirate and mercenary by trade, Nebula claims to be a descendent of the Mad Titan Thanos—at least in the comics, perhaps something could change in the film version—and is a master strategist in addition to being rather handy and armed and unarmed combat. She’s alternately been a follower of Gamora, her own boss, and something akin to a mindless zombie puppet, so it will be interesting to see what iteration of the character we see in the film. Presuming that it performs well at the box office, and that she doesn’t die, it’s entirely possible we could se her again in the future.

Gillan got a lot of grief when she chopped off her signature red locks for the production—though her hair will apparently make an appearance in Star Wars: Episode VII as one of the wigs—but it was definitely the right choice. The former Doctor Who star looks fucking awesome with a shaved head, painted blue or otherwise, and we can’t wait to see her trading blows Gamora or anyone else.

Guardians of the GalaxyThis image of Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, aka Peter Jason Quill, is similar to one we showed you the other day, and comes from the same moment in the film, when he is about to steal a mysterious glowing orb that most people suspect is one of the Infinity Gems. This moment figures prominently in both the trailer and first clip that dropped a little while back. We’ve mentioned it before, but there’s a definite Raiders of the Lost Ark vibe to this scene, and that just makes us even hungrier to finally lay eyes on this damn movie.

In addition to Pratt, Saldana, and Gillan, Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, John C. Reilly, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, and many more.
