ThanosThanos Gets Name-Checked Early
The footage opened with an extended version of the “usual suspects” prison line-up we’ve seen in all the trailers. It’s longer and provides a bit more info about the various Guardians. Most importantly, Nova Corps officer Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly) names Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) as “daughters” of “the mad titan Thanos,” and explains that Thanos loaned them out to Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). So, however much of a role Thanos plays in Guardians, he’s very clearly there in the background almost from the start, pulling the strings. (We do know that Thanos does appear in the film at some point, and that he’s being played by Josh Brolin.)
