GuardiansMainAudiences got their first extended look at Guardians of the Galaxy tonight at special screenings that previewed 17 minutes of footage from Marvel’s upcoming space opera at locations across the country. Naturally, GFR beamed an ambassador into the screenings to get the skinny. We’ll go into spoiler territory after the jump below, but the footage was all from early in the film, so you can read ahead without ruining any major surprises. If you do want to remain pristine and totally unspoiled, however, we’ll just give you the good news: what we saw looks outstanding. It’s fast-paced, it’s funny, the cast is stellar, and the world director James Gunn and his collaborators have created is vivid and exciting enough that I can’t wait to see more. Early comparisons have been tossed around to The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and while I’m not ready to say Guardians will be as good as those two, I do feel comfortable guaranteeing Guardians will be one of the best movies of the summer from a pure entertainment standpoint. You can check out the new trailer they released tonight right here, featuring tons of new footage.
