We’re less than a week away from Guardians of the Galaxy! For all the shit that’s been talked about the big summer blockbusters this years, it’s been a pretty good time at the movies. We’ve had smaller films like Snowpiercer, The Rover, and The Signal, as well as massive spectacles like Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, among others. But for all of that, it’s Marvel’s latest attempt to take over the cinematic universe that we’ve been really, truly the most excited for. On the home stretch, the studio has released almost 12-minutes worth of behind-the-scenes footage from the set of the cosmic adventure. There’s nothing too shocking here, but if you’re really afraid of SPOILERS, or want to go into the film cold, you might want to sit this one out.

Set in deep space, a new location for the MCU, the story revolves around a rag tag group of mismatched outlaws made up of the leader, Peter Jason Quill, aka Star-Lord (Christ Pratt); the green-tinged, body-modified, badass assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana); muscle-bound, vengeance-fueled madman Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista); anthropomorphic raccoon Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper); and the eight-foot-tall alien tree, Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), who only ever says, “I am Groot.” In pursuit of a mysterious orb, they must come together and figure out a way to save the galaxy from the nefarious villain Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).

This isn’t the most exciting stuff you’ve ever seen. Overall, this video feels like an extra that you’d find on a Blu-ray release. All that is here is a collection of footage from the set documenting the production in process. It’s cool to an extent, but watching 12-minutes of people running around, largely with no sound, full of garbled and obscured conversations, and no context gets a bit dull at times.

You can see how good a time they had on set, and the most interesting bits are watching director James Gunn work with the actors. In small doses there is still a decent amount of fun to be had. You get to see inside of the notorious prison called The Kyln, where the core characters first bond, and there is a lot of action going on. There are explosions galore, Drax just wrecking dudes left and right, not to mention Gamora throttling everyone she comes across. The highlight, however, is seeing Star-Lord knock a guy silly with a prosthetic leg.

Guardians of the GalaxyThis is the longest section, but from there, you move on to the inside of Star-Lord’s ship, the Milano, then down to the highly-populated planet of Xandar, and even onto Ronan’s Necrocraft, the Dark Aster. You get a good look at all of the stars, including those already named and Karen Gillan (Nebula), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), John C. Reilly (Corpsman Dey), and more. The most important part of this video, however, is one of Gunn’s t-shirts, which has Rocket’s face covered by a bandana. Someone needs to buy me this, quick.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1. I was lucky enough to see the film the other day, and though I’m still embargoed, I will say this, it’s as awesome, if not more so, than we all hoped.
