Lee PaceScheduled to begin filming in June, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is putting the finishing touches on its cast. The latest bit of news involves Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace jumping on board to play the villain.

According to TheWrap, The Hobbit actor is in final negotiations for the role. Beyond that, there isn’t a whole lot of news about the part. Disney and Marvel are keeping a tight lid on the identity of this particular bad guy, but many speculate that it will be either The Controller or The Collector. Some suspect that he could play Thanos, who made an appearance at the end of The Avengers, but given his long, lanky figure, he doesn’t seem to fit that part physically.

Earlier in the process, Pace was one of the actors mentioned as being up for the lead, Peter Quill/Star Lord, a part that ultimately went to Parks and Recreations’s Chris Pratt. The story finds Quill leading a group of misfit superheroes charged with protecting the universe from evil.

So far the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy also features Star Trek Into Darkness’s Zoe Saldana as the green-skinned assassin Gamora, WWE superstar Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and The Walking Dead’s Michael Rooker as the blue, mohawked alien archer Yondu. Ophelia Lovibond also recently joined the party in a supporting role—she’ll play an assistant to The Collector.

Guardians of the Galaxy is already scheduled to open in theaters on August 1, 2014.
