Much as I am a fan of Fox’s dysfunctional family comedy, Raising Hope, it’s not a show I ever expected to be writing about for GFR. But Raising Hope is not content to be a regular DVR stopover for my lovely wife and I, oh no. They’ve decided to bait me not only with the prospect of an episode paying tribute to the Back to the Future films, they’ve made the prospect irresistible by announcing that Doc Brown himself, actor Christopher Lloyd, will be putting in an appearance.

Entertainment Weekly first broke the news of Lloyd’s upcoming visit to Raising Hope, but there are no hints as to when the episode will air. They do have some details as to how Lloyd’s role will play out. He’ll be in the role of a loan collector named Dennis Powers. He crosses paths with the Raising Hope characters when Jimmy (Lucas Neff) and Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) try to buy a new car on credit. Unfortunately this attracts the attention of Powers, who comes a’calling to collect on an old debt. Supposedly Lloyd will climb behind the wheel of a DeLorean at least once during the episode, which is as it should be.

This will be Lloyd’s second recent guest appearance on a Fox show. He played “Roscoe Joyce” in the 2011 Fringe episode “The Firefly.” He also apparently voiced Dr. Emmett Brown on an episode of Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken, and I will now make it my life’s purpose to see that episode.

Seriously, though, Lloyd is a talented actor with many roles under his belt, so we shouldn’t only think of him as Doc Brown from Back to the Future. We should also think of him as Kruge from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
