While TRON: Legacy was visually stunning and featured an amazing soundtrack by Daft Punk, it left a lot to be desired in the actual storyline department. Sure, it was great to see Jeff Bridges back in the role of Kevin Flynn, but the storyline involving his rouge duplicate program Clu just felt like the early brushstrokes of something that could have been much better. Still, the digital world of TRON is packed with potential, and is looks like some of that potential will be explored in Disney XD’s upcoming animated series TRON: Uprising. With the series set to premiere this Thursday, June 7th, art director Alberto Mielgo has shared two lovely pieces of concept art from the series on his blog.

Set between the original TRON and Legacy, Uprising centers around a young revolutionary program named Beck who begins working in secret with Tron himself, with the goal of freeing the grid from the grip of Clu. In addition to featuring some gorgeous design work, the show’s voice cast is packed with recognizable names, including Elijah Wood (as Beck), Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Nathan Cordry, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reubens, Tricia Helfer, and Tron Himself, Bruce Boxleitner.
