path of destructionDirector Gareth Edwards is embracing social media to build excitement and anticipation for the new Godzilla reboot movie. Although the film has only been in production for a little more than a month now, there have been a good number of pictures and videos coming from the film’s Vancouver, Canada filming locations. The above image was posted on Legendary Pictures’ official Facebook page, with a caption that reads “Path of destruction.” It gives us a taste of the damage we will see when Godzilla arrives in 2014.

On the first day of production back in March, director Gareth Edwards released a brief YouTube video from the Vancouver International Airport to commemorate the first shot of the new film. Ever since, there has been a steady stream of leaked images and video from Godzilla popping up through various forms of social media. Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull seems to be encouraging Godzilla fans to take advantage of social media to become more enthusiastic about the new film.

The Godzilla reboot is the follow-up to Gareth Edwards’ directorial debut, Monsters (which you can watch on Netflix if you haven’t seen it yet.) Former Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont revised the final version of the script, which was previously worked on by screenwriters Max Borenstein, Dave Callaham, David S. Goyer, and Drew Pearce. Darabont called the Godzilla reboot “a force of nature,” and according to Gareth Edwards, the film will be a more realistic take on the original Japanese source material.

The film features an all-star cast of foreign, indie, and art-house actors, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Sally Hawkins, and Bryan Cranston.

Godzilla will hit theaters everywhere on May 14, 2014, in 3D.
