AMC’s The Walking Dead is ramping up as we move into the final four episodes of season three. Comic book creator and show producer Robert Kirkman recently appeared on Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show on TBS, and rewarded fans with yet another clip of the upcoming episode, “Arrow on the Doorpost.”

The main gist of this segment is that Glenn (Steven Yuen) is putting on his big-boy pants. This season has been one continuous build-up towards the inevitable conflict between Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) survivors at the prison and the Governor’s (David Morrissey) forces at Woodbury. It promises to be one hell of a violent collision when it finally happens. Glenn is waist deep in preparing their compound for the clash.

While Glenn wants to fortify, Merle (Michael Rooker) has other ideas. Instead of sitting back and waiting, he suggests taking a more proactive approach and going at the Governor and his former cronies head on.

I’m curious to see which approach they take. Both have their own certain perks. Staying put gives them time to secure their perimeter, prepare for an invasion, and form a concrete plan. On the other hand, the Governor is a dictator who thrives on fear, probably figures he has the survivors running scared, and wouldn’t be expecting it. Merle’s approach gives them the element of surprise, and who knows Woodbury’s defensive capabilities like he does? Still, it’s a reckless endeavor to be sure.

Given Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) history of rash activity, you might expect her to be on board with Merle’s plan, despite their rocky past. But even she’s not on board with a full frontal assault.

“Arrow on the Doorpost” airs this Sunday, March 10th.
