Futurama Teases Its Return With New Trailer
It nearly impossible to talk about animated comedies, whose relative inexpensiveness and narrative freedom allow for hit series to continue longer than live-action shows, without speaking only in comparatives. If you don’t care about the subject at all, feel lucky you’re mostly oblivious to the vehement loathing that lurks beneath the surface of fans who have to listen to the tasteless moron who doesn’t share their opinion. Well, I guess that’s a normal occurrence throughout all the realms of pop culture, religion, politics, sports, and cuisine. So I guess what I’m getting at is, Futurama is what it means to be human, and Bender should be our savior forevermore.
But if you’re not into making grand life choices like that, then just do some simple rejoicing that Futurama will finally be returning to Comedy Central this summer, and that we now have a three minute trailer to use as a grunt-filled hors d’oeuvres for the eventual main course.
Opinion time! While I don’t understand the point of still calling this next batch of episodes the second half of the seventh season, I’ll say that I thought the first half was the best yet since the series’ return from cancellation hell. I mean, even Futurama‘s worst episodes still have more imagination, jokes and acting talent than 90% of every other comedy currently on TV. But this trailer, which starts as a series of gags and turns into actual scenes from the episodes, looks like these episodes could put this season up there with those in the original run.
Is it just me, or does everyone agree that Robot Devil should get his own spinoff series? That, the inventive treatment of Calculon’s resurrection, and the two-dimensional bit would alone be enough to sway me. But throw in Bender vomiting nuts and bolts along with a “Which Zoidberg is the real Zoidberg?” standoff, and it’s like they’re speaking to me personally. We’ll let you guys know if Comedy Central ever puts a premiere date out there. But until then, ponder upon the implications of Nibbler looking like Petey from The Little Rascals.
