Riddick BannerRiddick, the latest offering from star Vin Diesel and director David Twohy, doesn’t even hit theaters until September 6, but if you’ve been paying attention you’d think it’s coming out next week. The sheer amount of promotional swag they’ve released lately is intense. In just the past few days we’ve seen a new poster, an international trailer, and now five funny character banners.

Riddick is a space outlaw, and even though he has a heart of gold — or at least a gold-ish substance — he’s still murdered his fair share of people. Granted, most of them were bad, but he’s not generally someone you want to cross. Even with his stern demeanor and capacity for violence, he’s funny. It’s a dry, gallows-style humor, always with an undertone of menace, but he’s not above cracking a joke. These new images, appearing on the film’s Facebook page, play up the lighter side of the character and the upcoming film.

Admittedly, some of them are a little serious, like the one that says “Rule the Dark,” and shows Riddick unveiling his augmented eyes that allow him to see without the aid of light. This is similar to the “I Bow to No Man” poster that popped up recently. But this is balanced out by the picture of the bounty hunters that pursue Riddick across the galaxy, all wearing worried looks, hoping they brought enough of an arsenal to make it out of this situation with their lives. Not only are they pitted against Riddick, but there’s an entire planet of monsters hellbent on devouring any intruders they happen across. Things are dire.

Riddick also stars Katee Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Jordi Molla, Bokeem Woodbine, and more.
