This Friday, January 18th, we will bid a fond farewell to Fox’s sci-fi police procedural, Fringe. It’s been a while in coming, and many were surprised that the embattled show was given a fifth season at all, even though it is a truncated affair of 13 episodes.

We’ve seen the promo for the two-hour finale (composed of episodes 99 and 100), we’ve watched the first 11 episodes of the season, and now there’s this eerie new poster to tease the finale.

Season five of Fringe has been a long, slow build, and the longer things go, the crazier you know the conclusion is going to be. As if you didn’t know that already, this poster will drive home the point that some nastiness is going to transpire. It’s never a good time when skin grows over your eyes and mouth—we’ve seen that trick before—and when blood starts trickling out of your nose. That’s no fun for anyone.

The first episode of the evening is titled “Liberty,” in which “the Fringe team engages a desperate plan as Olivia embarks on a dangerous and otherworldly journey into the unknown.” You can’t help but wonder if this “journey” involves going to the other side, the alternative universe. We saw in the promo that Faux-Livia and Lincoln Lee pop up in the finale, so that feels like a logical jump to make.

In the final final episode, “An Enemy of Fate,” Olivia (Anna Torv), Peter (Joshua Jackson), Walter (John Noble), Asrid (Jasika Nicole), and Broyles (Lance Reddick) “face off against the Observers in one final and extraordinary battle for the fate of mankind.” So, you know, no big deal or anything, just everything in the world at stake, nothing to worry about.
