Firefly Drinking Game Just Seems Mean
Is there a better way to enjoy your favorite series, one you’ve watched a million and one times, than in marathon form, with a bunch of like-minded friends, drinking to excess? That’s a good time right there, and a drinking game really does make everything better.
Like any good series with a devoted cult following, Joss Whedon’s short-lived space western, Firefly, has, of course, spawned a drinking game to call its own. Check out the rules and decide for yourself if you’re brave enough to take on this particular alcohol-fueled challenge.
You better hope that you’re drinking something light and airy like wine coolers if you attempt to play this game. Seriously, the rules are absolutely brutal. Make absolutely sure that you have the next day off of work, because just from watching the pilot you’ll be in a world of hurt. River spouts some crazy nonsense, you hear all about the war, Browncoats, and Reavers, and Inara, you know, services some clients.
The rules that require multiple drinks for particular actions just seem excessively mean-spirited. Maybe this game was devised by the creators of a rival, less beloved science fiction series, designed to chase fans away from Firefly. Like an inter-genre rivalry kind of thing.
On the other side of the coin, this could also have been designed by fans, for fans, to help wash away the lingering pain of a premature cancellation.
Also, what is a “skull drink?” Is that like taking a shot, or shotgunning a beer? That’s the general impression you get from the last rule.
