The Final Battle Looms In This New Fringe Poster

It’s a depressing prospect, considering a future in a world without Fringe, but that reality is fast approaching. Only four more episodes of Fox’s fan-favorite sci-fi procedural remain, and since the final two of those will air back to back on January 18th, there are really only three days of new Fringe left. And a new poster rubs it in a little. Seriously, for fans of the show, it’s like squeezing lemon juice in a paper cut. Take a look for yourself.

In this image, Captain Windmark (Michael Kopsa), the main villain among the Observers, those bald, pasty dickweeds from the future, looks like he has been through the ringer. Perhaps this is courtesy of his previous encounter with Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), while he was all juiced up on Observer tech.

Then again, maybe it isn’t. The poster does tease “The Final Battle,” and those sorts of things tend to leave participants bruised, bloody, and a bit worse for wear. Here’s hoping that Windmark finally gets what’s coming to him.

It’ll be curious to see how Fringe wraps things up. While they’re not big on super-pessimistic endings, things have not been going well for the team in season five. As we sit here, Walter Bishop (John Noble) is embroiled in a desperate internal battle between the man he has become—good and kind—and the man he used to be—a greedy, power-hungry bastard who thought himself a god among men. With only a few chapters left, the hope of a happy ending is getting more and more remote, but that isn’t exactly Fringe’s style either.

In any case, the remainder of the series should be exciting. So far season five has been one strong episode after another, and showrunner J.H. Wyman has promised that the finale is “massive…really big.” So there’s that to look forward to.
