Fear The Walking Dead Ep. 2 – First Zombie Head Bashing!
Despite the somewhat slow start of episode one, I was still looking forward to the second episode of Fear The Walking Dead this week. And I have to say, they really should have taken that scene of Nick fleeing the church in episode one and used it with episode two as the pilot episode. Cause this one was pretty freaking exciting, if you ask me. If you missed it, you can watch it now on Amazon.
Over at io9, they think this episode is better than the first but not great. I have to disagree with that.
For starters, the zombie level has been upped with this episode. We see kid #2 (Alicia) going to her boyfriend’s home to see why he left her hanging at the beach. Surprise, surprise, he’s done been bitten by a zombie on his shoulder. Now, he hasn’t gone full on zombie YET, so he tells her to leave him.
What’s great about this episode is that we have this family who know what is happening in the world and that quirky, pudgy kid who has known from the beginning – and that is pretty much it. The world is changing and only these four people (pudgy kid + 3 family members) know it. Kinda exciting, right?
Now, the boyfriend isn’t the only zombie of the episode. We have a homeless guy who was shot downtown (though we don’t get to see him being a zombie), which is followed by a Goth chick who zombie stumbles around a police cruiser. I really loved how there was the quick scene where you could see her coming, then the cutaway before going back to the cop shooting her. Pretty rad.
Then we see the principal go full-on zombie and attack the lead heroine of the show – she’s saved by pudgy kid, who ends up needing saved himself, which she does. And there, ladies and gentlemen, is where we get our first survivor bashing the head of a zombie! And I am super stoked that Kim Dickens was cast in this role cause she was awesome on Deadwood and really brings the whole badass chick persona to the show.
And, our final zombie of this episode was in the house across the street. Now, I’m not sure if it was the neighbor that we saw coughing or if it was the husband. But, either way there is some suburban zombie munching going on by the bouncy house.
And the show ends with Madison and Travis (the two parents) being split up on opposite sides of town, with all hell breaking loose around them. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for the next episode. If you need to catch up, find all the episodes online on Amazon.
