Excellent Star Wars Vs. Star Trek Fan Trailer Pits Picard Against Palpatine

There’s been a cold war between Star Wars fans and Star Trek fans nearly as long as the two franchises have existed. Maybe it’s just human nature to separate into variations on “us” vs. “them.” Maybe it’s because some people look better in loosely flowing Jedi robes than in form-fitting Starfleet uniforms. Maybe it’s just because fanboys love to argue which of their beloved fictional characters could beat up which of their other beloved fictional characters (for the record, Winnie the Pooh could take down the Trix rabbit easy). Regardless, Trek vs. Wars is one of the longest running feuds in fandom, and it’s given birth to all means of creative expression over the years, from epic fan fictions to elaborate illustrations. As video editing became something that could be easily done on a home computer, the battle became more sophisticated, and searching “Star Wars vs. Star Trek” on YouTube turns up dozens of videos. Few, however, are as slickly done as this one.

That snazzy little video was actually posted a few years ago, and I’m kind of stunned that it never found its way across my path. Still, better late than never, because the video is a nice little bit of work, especially when you consider how many different sources it’s spliced together from. The faux trailer includes footage from Star Trek (2009), Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: Nemesis, Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Revenge of the Sith.

It’s just a shame it’s been rendered irrelevant by the Star Peace brokered by George Takei.

I too consider myself quite knowledgeable on both and it irritated me when I saw ‘From directors J.J Abrahams and George Lucas’… most of the footage was from First Contact (dir. Jonathan Frakes) and The Empire Strikes Back (dir. Irvin Kershner).

First Contact > Star Trek (2009) … IMO
