Entire Firefly Cast Will Reunite At Comic-Con For The Show’s 10-Year Anniversary

There’s going to be a shindig in San Diego in a few weeks. The entire crew of Serenity will reunite at Comic-Con this year for the 10th anniversary of the cult TV show Firefly. Joining the cast will be the show’s creator and showrunner Joss Whedon and writer and producer Tim Minear. The panel is brought to you by the Science Channel, which re-runs episodes of Firefly, and will take place on July 13th (Friday) at 12:30PM in Ballroom 20. Start lining up now!

The last time the entire cast was together was not for TV show but the Firefly movie, Serenity in 2005. Firefly was canceled in 2003 after poor rating and very low viewership. Two years later, there was enough enthusiasm for Universal to make a movie. The movie was a disappointment at the box office for Universal, only grossing $38 million worldwide but sold much even better on Blu-ray and DVD. So much so, Universal released a two-disc special edition of the film on DVD. From the official press release:

It has been 10 years since the crew of Serenity took flight in Joss Whedon’s short-lived but now revered series, FIREFLY. SCIENCE will reconvene, for the first time in a decade, Captain Mal Reynolds and the crew from the ship, calling all Browncoats to unite at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. The cast of FIREFLY will talk about the past, present and future of FIREFLY, 10 years after its debut. SHINY.

An interesting thing about this press release is it says “the future of Firefly.” Is this a tease for an incoming sequel to Serenity? After the insane success of the Joss Whedon directed The Avengers, there was some speculation Serenity 2 might actually happen. Regardless, this has to be one of the biggest things going on at Comic-Con this year.

    If there is a future for Firefly, please find a way to bring Wash back. I don’t care if it’s in a lame plot-hole kind of way (although I doubt Whedon would ever do such a thing), I just want him back. Browncoats represent!

    I hate when articles state:
    Firefly was canceled in 2003 after poor rating and very lower viewership.” without noting the cause of it being episodes shown out of order, day and time showing changed every week, and no advertising of any consequence, and the the movie being an abject failure of marketing. All by the amazingly inept Fox network and studios.

    My favourite line is still from the comic book – Mal shoots some guy, turns to walk away, pauses, turns back and puts a second bullet in the guy’s head, then says: “Just making sure.”

    “You keep flying. We’ll keep watching.”
