Edge of TomorrowDoug Liman’s upcoming alien invasion adventure Edge of Tomorrow is coming up quickly. The Tom Cruise-starring actioner opens on June 6, and Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow have released a new pair of posters, a traditional one sheet, as well as another banner ad.

There’s nothing super informative about this first poster. The image shows stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt standing around, looking haggard. But it does give you another good look at the big exoskeletons that the soldiers wear, and again, they look pretty damn cool. They may be bulky and clunky, but though the story is set in the future, it doesn’t look like technology has evolved to the point where we have super sleek versions like the ones in movies like Elysium. These are definitely more akin to Ripley’s power loader from Aliens.

You also get a good idea of the damage that the invaders are going wreak on the Earth. The background is full of smoke, fire, explosions, and general chaos. There’s the Arc de Triomphe looming out there, looking like it has definitely seen better days.

Edge of TomorrowBlunt takes center stage on the banner poster, and though she’s flying solo, the visual themes are similar to the other offering. The destruction is there, the grim fire and wreckage, and not to mention there’s fire raining down from the sky. That sucks to deal with, and you need one hell of a sturdy umbrella. Still, somehow, Blunt manages to look like a glamorous movie star, even while all smudged up and grubby. Then again, this is all artistic and Photoshopped, she definitely looks more realistically grizzled in the trailers and footage that we’ve seen.

Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s novel All You Need Is Kill, Edge of Tomorrow takes place in the near future when a hostile alien force has invaded Earth and is causing rather serious problems for those of us who live here. Lieutenant Colonel Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never actually seen any sort of real combat until he is thrown into an unwinnable assault where he is killed moments after being dropped off. In a move that is reminiscent of Harold Ramis’ Groundhog Day, after he dies he wakes up at the beginning of the day, only to die and die again. Each day he gets a little bit better at fighting and makes it a little bit farther. Eventually he meets Rita Vrataski (Blunt), a Special Forces soldier who knows what he’s going through and offers to train him. Together they must figure out how to beat this unbeatable enemy and save the day.

Edge of Tomorrow also stars Bill Paxton, Jeremy Piven, Ciaran Hinds, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda, and Tony Way.
