Edgar Wright’s The World’s End Will Arrive Two Months Earlier

Good news, everyone! One of the most anticipated movies of 2013 will be arriving a little bit sooner. Universal Studios has moved up the release of Edgar Wright’s The World’s End from October to August. The latest from the genre director will now enjoy the benefits of some prime summer real estate. Wright announced the date change on Twitter:

The World’s End is the final film in Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s “Blood and Ice Cream (Three Flavours Cornetto) Trilogy.” The first movie in the series was the zombie horror comedy Shaun of the Dead in 2004 and it was followed up with the buddy cop/action film Hot Fuzz in 2007. Each film in the trilogy plays off different movie genres and tropes. According to Edgar Wright, The World’s End will be based on “the social science-fiction genre.”
The movie will follow the reunion of five childhood friends — now in their late 30s — who want to re-create the epic pub-crawl of their youth. As the group moves from pub to pub, they quickly realize finishing the pub-crawl is the least of their worries, and the fate of humanity is in their drunken hands.
The World’s End stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Marsan, David Bradley, and Paddy Considine. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright wrote the film, as they did the first two films in the trilogy. Simon Pegg describes the film as “a much bigger proposition than the other two films.”
The World’s End will now hit theaters everywhere in the U.S. on August 23rd. It will open in the U.K. a week earlier on August 14th.
