Now that Cloud Atlas has hit theaters and will be soon released on home video, the Wachowskis are looking toward their next project, the mysterious Jupiter Ascending. There is not much known about the film’s premise, but now the directing duo is eyeballing British actor Eddie Redmayne for one of the film’s roles.

According to Variety.com, Redmayne is currently in talks to be cast in Jupiter Ascending. He would join a cast that already includes Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. The deal with Redmayne has not been finalized yet, but Variety is describing the film as a “set in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder and follows a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the queen of the universe.”

Eddie Redmayne will be featured in Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables later this month. He co-starred with Michelle Williams in last year’s My Week With Marilyn and was on the short list to be cast in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. If the deal with Warner Bros. and the Wachowskis goes through, Redmayne will most likely not be featured in that upcoming Marvel movie.

Jupiter Ascending is set to go into production in early 2013, and a release date has yet to be announced. It will most likely be released during the summer or fall of 2014. This will be the first pure sci-fi film the Wachowskis have done since the Matrix Revolutions in 2003. So, for those who felt lukewarm after watching Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending might be a return to form.
