There hasn’t been a lot of good news on the Star Wars game front since Disney bought out George Lucas’ iconic franchise lock, stock, and barrel. It seemed inevitable that the Disney juggernaut would have some big plans for Star Wars gaming; making use of a franchise across multiple media is one thing Disney does very, very well. But then came news that hit many devout gamers right in the gut: they shut down LucasArts, one of the most venerable and respected game studios out there. Among other things, this meant the cancellation of the very promising-looking Star Wars 1313. Now, however, there’s some very good news. A new Star Wars: Battlefront game is in the works.

The last Battlefront game came out way back in 2009, although one had been in the works for some time before being canceled. The series drops players in the midst of iconic Star Wars clashes such as the Battle of Hoth. While there aren’t many details available at this point other than the game’s existence, we do know it’s being developed by DICE — appropriately enough, the folks responsible for the Battlefield games. And if the teaser above is any indication, it looks like we will be returning to Hoth in the new game.

This is the first big Star Wars project confirmed since EA purchased the Star Wars game license last month. This is definitely a good start, so let’s hope many exciting new Star Wars games are yet to come.

There is no confirmed release date for Star Wars: Battlefront, but it will be available for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
