Mirror’s Edge is one of those games that enthralls and frustrates in equal measure. A first-person platforming/free-running game is already an odd concept, since it doesn’t give you the sense of your surroundings and your avatar’s body that a third-person view does, resulting in many a fall and lots of profanity here in the Wharton household. Still, the game was visually gorgeous, and when you actually got in a rhythm and the game was working the way it was intended to, it gave you a thrilling sense of movement and spectacle. In spite of not being an out-of-the-park hit, a sequel has been rumored for years, and now the new trailer above has confirmed that Mirror’s Edge 2 is indeed in our not-too-distant future.

The new trailer doesn’t reveal much, but does confirm it will be sticking with the first-person point of view, and that protagonist Faith will once again be leaping, climbing, and sprinting across the same sort of sleek, colorful cityscape that made the first game so striking. The trailer also showcases Faith kicking some ass, so the combat elements will obviously be returning as well. I’m hoping the folks at DICE have managed to rethink how combat works in the sequel, because that was one of the more frustrating elements of the first game.

There’s no release date set for Mirror’s Edge 2 yet, but it will be available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
