Dune Video Game Concept Art Is Frighteningly Gorgeous

This would be a great time to say something like, “A certain movie studio has decided to remake Frank Herbert’s classic novel Dune for the big screen, with a huge name director and popular stars joining the project immediately after seeing some of this amazing concept art for the film.” It would be great to say that. But alas, that isn’t what any of this actually is. But these stunning new pieces of concept art aren’t purely fan-made awesomeness either. It’s the work of Singapore artist Feng Zhu, who runs the company Feng Zhu Design, as well as the institution FZD School of Design.
This and the images below were created for a proposed game called Dune: Ancient Sands, which I don’t think is real, but it very well could be. After getting a look at these images, I certainly hope it does exist, considering how awesome these pictures are. It could be as damningly difficult as Demon Souls and I’d still keep playing just to see how it all looks on a big TV.
It kind of makes you forget all about David Lynch’s film version, and implants the hope that someone may, one day create a film more tethered to the source material, but with the vision that such a project requires. We’ll get to see pieces of original director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s outlandish version, via Jodorowsky’s Dune, the upcoming documentary from Frank Pavich that tracks the ill-fated production, but that’s not quite the same.

Zhu’s company has worked on big time films such as Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith and Transformers, and film industry big-wigs like James Cameron and Luc Besson have also recently put his designs to use.
If Besson made a Dune movie, then the world could finally stop spinning. Or if someone just kept making Calvin & Hobbes comics with switched dialogue, we’d be happy with that too.
