With the start of the summer TV season, genre fans can be treated to a number of genre-heavy TV shows like Continuum, In The Flesh, and Under The Dome. The TV adaptation of Stephen King’s best-selling novel has a lot of people excited because of the series’ strange premise and one of its writers Brian K. Vaughn. To get general audiences excited about Under The Dome, CBS released new images from the TV series and a vague official synopsis. Check out the images below:

The images CBS released features some of the TV series supporting cast including Dean Norris as James “Big Jim” Rennie, Alexander Koch as “Big Jim’s” son Junior Rennie, Britt Robertson as aspiring nurse Angie McAlister, and Nicholas Strong as Phil the DJ. CBS also released a very broad plot synopsis for Under The Dome, which only touches on the TV series overall conflict, rather than its character-driven story arcs. Read the synopsis below:

“Pilot” – When the residents of Chester’s Mill find themselves trapped under a massive transparent dome with no way out, they struggle to survive as resources rapidly dwindle and panic quickly escalates, on the series premiere of UNDER THE DOME, Monday, June 24 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Although writer Neal Baer (China Beach) is the TV series’ showrunner and executive producer, comic book writer Brian K. Vaughn’s involvement with Under The Dome is what makes some genre fans excited about the new Stephen King TV adaptation. Brian K. Vaughn was a writer on the TV series Lost in 2006 and he’s the creator of one of the best graphic novels of the last decade Y: The Last Man. Brian K. Vaughn originally developed Under The Dome for Steven Spielberg for the premium cable network Showtime in 2011, but later developed the TV series for CBS.

Under The Dome has a good premise with a great cast, crew, and stable of writers behind it, so hopefully it will be something worth watching this summer. The TV series also features actors Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Colin Ford, Natalie Martinez, Ned Bellamy, Jolene Purdy, Aisha Hinds, and Jeff Fahey.

Under The Dome premieres on Monday June 24th on CBS.
