The Eighth Doctor stands apart from the rest because, at least prior to this past fall’s anniversary “mini-sode” Night of the Doctor, he only appeared in the role once. In reality, that was Paul McGann’s appearance in the standalone Fox Doctor Who TV movie that could have, if successful, served as a pilot for a revived series years before Russell T Davies and Christopher Eccleston managed. Goldblum was an established and respected actor, one whose star was high in the ‘90s thanks to Jurassic Park, and he also has the chops to play the Doctor’s multi-hued personality. I can definitely see Fox going to him for the role in an alternate universe. But would that mean that in that universe Goldblum’s Who movie would have been produced for British TV instead?
