20th Century Fox is back with yet another new TV ad for Matt Reeves’ upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Considering that the first film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, was far better than most of us expected, this one has been high on our must-see lists since it was announced. We’re still more than a month from the release date, but the studio is doing everything they can to push this film to the forefront of your consciousness.

Though short, this video features a fair amount of new footage. Given what we know about the franchise, and where things wind up overall, we know that the humans and apes are going to clash in a violent manner, and that action is at the forefront of this commercial. Apes are getting shot and jumping off of really tall things, flaming tires are getting tossed through windows, and the surviving human populations are getting surrounded a massive gang of monkeys. There’s a definite sense of foreboding and doom, even as Gary Oldman’s Dreyfus character boasts about killing every last one of them. We’re willing to be he calls them damn, dirty apes at some point. That’s the impression that we get, anyway.

We’ve seen images of the apes on horseback, carrying spears, and even brandishing firearms, but this video shows just how adept they are at using some of these newly acquired tools. For instance, you see a group of them take down a giant freakin’ bear in rather epic fashion. That right there should illustrate that these are not creatures to be trifled with, by people or massive forest predators. It is an intense clip, every bit as powerful as the other high action bits.

Dawn of the Planet of the ApesThe story of Dawn picks up ten years after the events of Rise. While Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his crew of escaped apes build their own civilization in the woods of Northern California, the human population has been ripped apart by a virulent, man-made disease—though people still blame it on the apes. When a group of survivors led by Malcolm (Jason Clarke, Terminator: Genesis) are looking for a place to settle, they strike up an uneasy accord with the apes, proving that not all humans want to drive them to extinction. This peace is not destined to last, and as you can see here, before long, all our war breaks out between the two sides.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also stars Keri Russell, Kirk Acevedo, Judy Greer, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and more, and opens everywhere in 3D on July 11.
