The Dark Side’s One Weakness: Cute Little Bunnies

In The Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker helped his father Anakin finally find redemption and emerge, however briefly, from beneath the menacing shell of Darth Vader. Even in the face of his own likely death, Luke believed that there was still good in dear old dad. As it turns out, however, Luke and the Rebellion could have saved a lot of time and carnage if they’d just tried an easier way to get down to Vader’s cuddly, sensitive center. How, you ask? Why, by sending the old softie a cute little bunny, obviously.
These unlikely pairings are the work of Nashville artist Kelly Kerrigan. As reported by HuffPo, she was inspired to create the paintings after the 2010 death of her husband, Paul, whose favorite movie was Harvey, which stars Jimmy Stewart as an affable fellow who just happens to be best friends with a giant, invisible rabbit. And we’re not even remotely going to make some snide crack about that because it’s kind of lovely and sad and awesome.
Although we do feel compelled to point out that if George Lucas was determined to show us the cuddly origins of Darth Vader, this method would have been way less painful than the prequels. Can you resist the cuteness?
